Old Age Homes in Elgin, Kolkata
One of the oldest old-age homes present in Kolkata has to be the Little sisters of the poor. This old age home was started on December 7, 1882, even though Little sisters of the poor as an organization had already started in 1839 in Cancale in Brittany and welcomed old people from both genders as well as from any race, caste, creed, or religion. It is present on A.J.C. Bose road opposite hotel Hindustan International in Kolkata.
It mainly tries to provide humanitarian services to old people who are poor even though it is open to providing services to old individuals from any financial background. The admission fees might be negotiable and may depend on the current financial state of a person. The old age home is run by Christian missionaries. Unlike most other old age homes in Kolkata, this one has its presence in more than 32 countries apart from India where it provides its services to the poor and the elderly.
